Dr. Lea Starita is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Washington and the Co-director of the Brotman Baty Advanced Technology Lab, a research arm of the Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine. She earned her Ph.D. from Harvard Medical School and served as a Senior Fellow at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute before coming to the University of Washington to train in functional genomics with Stan Fields and Jay Shendure.
Her lab develops multiplexed assays for variant effect, which is a series of methods that harness the power of next-generation sequencing to test the effects of thousands of single nucleotide variants on protein function in a single experiment. She has pioneered the use of these assays for measuring the effect of variants in clinically relevant proteins like BRCA1.
Dr. Starita is partnering with the CEP to advances understanding of NOTCH3 mutations and the resulting contributions to small vessel disease.
